About me

I received a Baccalaureus Social Sciences (Social Work) Degree from the University of the Freestate in 1994. Since then I worked as a social worker in family protection organisations from December 1994 until October 1999 doing holistic social work. From November 1999 until February 2012 I specialised in child trauma as a social worker of Abraham Kriel Childcare (now Abraham Kriel Bambanani) within their residential care program. Over this 12 year period I gained valuable experience and also had the privilege to be a supervisor to the social work staff of the organisation for two of those years. Various short courses specialising in my service field were completed by me during that time.I was called to being a founding member of Ligstad (meaning; City of Light) in the Alberton North area in 2012. There I sharpened my community work skills in establishing the non-profit organisation together with valuable community leaders. Ligstad was established in partnership with Tutela Family Care Greater Alberton (then CMR).  As social worker I joined the team of social workers at that office.  Together with my work at Ligstad, I was responsible for the community work of the Tutela Early Intervention and Prevention program of Tutel in the Alberton area.

I resigned from Tutela at the end of February 2024 aiming to focus on establishing a social work private practice while still being intensively involved in the community development work of Ligstad.I am a certified program facilitator of LifeSpheres’ Peer Community CoCare Program and also qualified as a Trauma Incident Reduction Facilitator during the last twelve years of serving the community.  I also recently trained to be a facilitator in the Protective Behaviour Program. As a child of two teachers, training is another passion of mine.  I believe that knowledge is power and that knowledge empowers and assist people to regain their resilience. My purpose is to be the difference and to bring hope.  I am honoured to be an instrument in God’s hand by serving in the community and within individual lives.
